The Argus Anti-Drone electronic countermeasure gun is designed to counter various types of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) by suppressing their control, data transmission and navigation radio channels. Suppression is achieved by generating radio-frequency interference in the frequency bands used by most UAVs. When used against a UAV, the system may cause the drone to lose its control link, disrupt the video feed to its operator and activate the automatic landing mode of commercial UAVs. OPERATING PRINCIPLE The Argus Anti-Drone electronic countermeasure gun is powered by replaceable rechargeable batteries. It can be brought from transport mode into operational readiness in no more than 10 seconds and is capable of suppressing most commercially manufactured and custom-built UAVs. The system is equipped with a high-capacity rechargeable battery connected to the electronic countermeasure gun through a quick-release mechanism. The battery provides up to one hour of continuous operation at above-zero temperatures and up to 45 minutes at below-zero temperatures. The system is operated by a single operator and functions silently. It can be used against one or several UAVs located within a 25-30-degree sector in the direction in which the gun is aimed. Depending on its programmed response algorithm, a UAV exposed to the jammer may:
stop and hover or begin drifting with the wind until its battery is depleted;
begin a gradual descent within several seconds and subsequently land;
lose control and fall to the ground.
Maximum effectiveness is achieved when the distance between the UAV and its remote controller is as large as possible, while the distance between the UAV and the countermeasure gun is as short as possible. USING THE ARGUS ANTI-DRONE SYSTEM The system is operated by one person. After removing the equipment from its packaging, the rechargeable battery must be charged. Once the battery has been charged, its cable must be connected to the designated socket on the electronic countermeasure gun. The switch must then be moved to the ON position, after which the gun should be aimed towards the detected UAV. Maximum effectiveness is achieved at distances of up to 1 km. Effective use of the Argus Anti-Drone system may also be possible at distances of up to 3 km, depending on the terrain, weather conditions, obstacles between the drone and the gun, and the distance between the UAV and its operator. When the activated gun is continuously aimed at the UAV, the connection between the drone and its operator is disrupted. The drone loses access to positioning data from satellite navigation systems and to its control channels. The video feed disappears from the drone operator’s controller. Commercial UAVs may then initiate an immediate landing procedure. In some cases, multirotor UAVs may remain hovering in place and drift with the wind while waiting for the control connection to be restored. In this situation, it is recommended to keep the UAV within the suppression sector for as long as possible until its battery is fully depleted. In certain cases, drones may attempt to return to their home point. However, because their radio-navigation system has been disrupted, they may move in an arbitrary direction and eventually fall. During field testing, several non-commercial UAVs exposed to the Argus Anti-Drone-1600 system immediately lost all orientation and fell to the ground. IMPORTANT The manufacturer of the electronic countermeasure gun cannot guarantee the suppression of 100% of existing and future UAVs. Drone manufacturers continuously develop new technologies that allow their products to operate in complex electromagnetic environments.
